Over the last couple semesters I’ve been studying jazz/fusion drumming legend Tony Williams.  His musical inventiveness, ambitious biography and revolutionary playing have been a huge influence on me.  The more I’ve learned about him, the more respect and appreciation I have for his art and his life of musical discovery.

On April 13, 2009 I gave an hour-long presentation in the Dalton Center Lecture Hall on WMU’s campus on the life and music of Tony Williams.  While I could only include so much in an hour, the complete presentation can be found here.  Full of transcriptions (with accompanying music), stylistic analysis of his evolutionary playing, biographical insights and more, I hope that this package will provide some background on Tony Williams as well as bring about more appreciation for his legacy.
